Limited Outdoor Activities This Year

2020 has been a very off year for me in regards to getting out in the woods, on lakes, streams, to hike, camp, and fish.  My Spring wilderness overland trip fizzled out, as some of the campsites I was planning to hit were closed due to Covid.  My vacation last week before the July 4th weekend was hit and miss as well – I did get out to do some canoeing and exploring, but stayed within about 200 miles of home.

Back in my mid twenties I went on my first houseboat vacation.  The outfitter was Floating Lodges located on Sioux Narrows, Ontario Canada, on the beautiful Lake of the Woods.  Since then I have never gone on a houseboat vacation other than through Floating Lodges.  And since then I have been on perhaps a dozen such vacations.

Another Boundary Waters Canoe Area trip is set for this next month in August.  However, I am not 100 percent sure how much canoeing I will be doing.  You see, my father is renting a cabin on one of the entry lakes that allows motorized boats.  I’m tagging along for a few days with him and other family members.

While we will be in the area of the BWCA, I will not actually be paddling into the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness… at least not at first… I’m toying with the idea of sticking around for a few extra days after my family’s vacation and do a two or three night solo trip into the BWCA.
