Luxe Tempo 2 Man Tent – Heavy Rain No Leaking!

In preparation for some increased camping activity in my life, I recently bought a new Luxe Tempo tent, 2 man size 3-4 season.

I already have a variety of other tents that of the four and six man size variety, but I wanted to get something smaller that would suite my needs for backpack camping.

There are a lot of great one man and two man tents out there on the market.  Some are obviously cheap and may not last long or be as sturdy as I want.  While others I came across were way far outside my spending comfort zone.

I looked for tents everywhere; Cabelas, REI, Sportsman’s Guide, Amazon, Walmart, Bass Pro…  I found what I was looking for on Amazon, and got a great price.

Luxe Tempo 2 Man Tent Review

I got this tent a few weeks ago and did a practice setup in my yard.  It’s always a good idea to do that before your first trip.  I’ve heard horror stories of people setting up tents out in the wild only to find out they are missing poles.

It took about eight minutes to setup the first time.  Two fiberglass poles slide through sleeves over the top of the tent to give it it’s form.  It comes with twelve aluminum stakes and four guy-lines.

I used this tent this past weekend on a camping trip I took to the Black River State Forest in Wisconsin.  It rained all weekend.  In fact it rained really hard with passing thunderstorms.  I didn’t setup up a fly over the tent for added cover.  The plan was to see what this Luxe Tempo tent could handle.

It help back the rain like a boss!  No water leakage whatsoever!

My Luxe Tempo Tent – What I Liked!

I was looking for a tent that was fairly compact and could be used on long weekend hiking and camping excursions.  I could have bought a smaller tent, but I always liked to have a little extra room inside tents.

While this Luxe Tempo tent is rated as a 2 man tent size, I found it really more of a one man.  Sure, I could get my wife in there with me and we could probably sleep well enough, but there would be no space for a backpack or misc items.

When I used it over my rainy weekend I had plenty of room to move around, and store my large Alice Pack and other gear I wanted close.  I’m 6 foot 2 inches tall and flabby, and I had plenty of room.

The two doors make it really nice, as well as the vestibules on each side.  But one of the things I like most, and always look for in a tent, is a rain fly that has full coverage.  A lot of tents out there have only partial coverage rain flys.

If you are serious about camping and being able to weather some rain, then make sure you tent has a full coverage rain fly.  Also make sure it has a descent waterproof rating.  The Luxe Tempo 2 man tent has a rating of 3500mm.  You can of course buy some spray on waterproof sealant to bolster than.

I also like that fact that I can sit up in this tent.  Many 1 man tents you have to crawl in and out of.  That was another reason for wanting a 2 man tent, they are usually taller internally.  I was able to sit up and play solitaire without issue.

The carry bag measures 7″ x 7″ x 17″ but the tent actually rolls up smaller than that.  Even with the tent-poles and stakes wrapped up inside the bag with the tent and fly, there is a lot of extra room in the bag.  So the tent when packed is actually more like 5″ x 5″ x 15″.  Not a bad size, and at 5.5 lbs it a good weight for a 2 man tent.

It’s a great waterproof 2 man tent!

What I Didn’t’ Like

There wasn’t much with the Luxe Tempe 2 man tent that I didn’t like.  In fact I am surprised at how much I like it.  It’s my favorite tent I own.

However, if I had to knit-pick, I would say that it would be a nice bonus if it came with a tent footprint.

My larger tents have heavy floors in them and really don’t need footprints.  This tent has the poly rip stop floor that is typical of all small backpacker sized tents.  Nothing good or bad about that, it’s just a fact that small tents like this don’t have super thick floors.

A good foot print for this tent is basic 5″ x 7″ size.  They are pretty cheap to buy and pack small.  I did buy a footprint when I bought this tent.  I actually roll it up with the tent when I pack it away, so it’s always there when I set up.

Again, it not coming with a footprint is not a big deal.  Tents normally don’t.  So I can’t really even say this is a criticism.  It’s more just wishful thinking.

Luxe Tempo 2 Man Tent – Final Thoughts

This new tent is going to fit my needs wonderfully.  I have a couple canoe trips planned next year in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area, as well as a handful of smaller weekend excursions with just my backpack.  This 2 man Luxe Tempo tent is exactly what I was looking for.

I am glad I had a chance to give it a good initial test run under heavy rain conditions.  That goes a long way to ease the mind.  Usually when heavy rain is coming I will suspend an additional rain fly over my tent for some extra added protection.  I will still be doing that with this tent as well.  Just more piece of mind.  But it’s good to know it held it’s own under nasty conditions!

Do I recommend this Luxe Tempo 2 man tent?  I most certainly do.
