Overweight Outdoorsman – Not Doing So Good!

No, I have not given up or started eating lots of pizza, lasagna, and sucking down 2-3 Coca-Colas a day like I used to.  I have actually been on a stricter diet than I have ever been before and not having any issues sticking to it.

However, despite feeling good and having more energy, I seem to have plateaued on my Keto Diet.  Every Friday since I went on the Keto diet I have weighed myself.  The past couple weeks I have not lost any weight!  I have been hovering around 244 pounds.

My spring BWCA trip kicks off on May 17th, that’s only about seven weeks away from now.  The plan I had was to be down to 230 pounds by my trip.  Certainly still doable, but with the past two week’s lack of any weight loss I admit I need to change things up.

The Plan!

My plan is add some basic calisthenics and light weight training at home.  Nothing too crazy, just step things up three to four days per week to help give my metabolism a boost.  I have no desire to return to the long distance running and moderate weight lifting of my youth when I was a studly dude… Gonna keep it simple!

For now I am going to stick to the Keto diet but increase the protein intake slightly each day to coincide with my light workouts.  It will be interesting to see how this affects things.

Clothes!

I am struggling with clothes.  A week ago I went through every piece of clothing I own.  95% of what I had was too large and has since been donated to local charities.  That included jackets and outdoor wear.  Currently I own just a few pairs of pants, shirts, tees, socks, and a jackets.

To be honest I loath cloth shopping.  But I need to go do it, at least to pick up a few more items to hold me over until I reach my desired goal.  Walmart… Target… here I come!

Once things settle in where I want to be I’ll be spending some cash were my wife works as a store lead; Duluth Trading Company, where I can get 40% off through her.

My Body!

I have lost almost 100 pounds so far, and yeah, I have certainly noticed it.  There is more to go.  An area of issue I am having is my stomach around my entire mid-section.  It is a hard area for me to shed the lard from.  I’m pretty sure 80% of the weight I need to loose yet is located there.

My waist size right now is a slightly loose 42″.  I am getting close to being able to wear 40″ waist size pants.

Getting Outside!

Today is April 1st!  Spring is here.  Most of the snow in my area of Wisconsin has melted.  Rivers are breaking up ice and flowing fast.  Lakes are still ice covered but I suspect in the next 2-3 weeks will be open – unless we get a cold snap.

I am ready for spring and summer.  Lots of activities planned for this year.  Be sure to check out my other posts where I talk about my BWCA plans, Voyageur, and the Quetico.

Camp.  Hike.  Canoe.  Fish.

UPDATE:  4/9/19

I did break through my plateau.  Over a week later I am down to 239.8 lbs.  Here is a picture taken a few days ago.
