Barnett Vicious Crossbow Review – Keep reading for what you need to know.

Thanks for checking out my Barnett Vicious Crossbow Review.  I started using crossbows to hunt deer with in Wisconsin back in 2015.  My first crossbow was the Barnett Jackal, an entry level crossbow, but earlier this year I upgraded to the Barnett Vicious.

(UPDATE: The Vicious is no longer being made, but Barnett has a really nice upgraded version that is also reverse draw called the Barnett Revengeance which is new for 2018.  You can check out the Barnett Revengeance here).

There was a fair amount of research I put into purchased my new crossbow.  Earlier in the spring I wasn’t sure what it was I exactly wanted.  All I knew was that I wanted something smaller than the Jackal, and with a little more arrow speed.

My research eventually brought me to purchasing the Vicious, which is an upgraded version of the Barnett Reverse Raptor.  So let’s take a look!

Why Do Compound Bow Hunters Hate Crossbows?

Why Do Compound Bow Hunters Hate Crossbows?

Barnett Raptor FX3 - Why do compound bow hunters hate crossbows?
Barnett Raptor FX3 – Why do compound bow hunters hate crossbows?

I have often wondered why do compound bow hunters hate crossbows.  My own background in archery began at a young age with a youth recurve.  Later I upgraded to a compound bow and hunted with one for twenty years.

I live in Wisconsin.  For many years crossbows were allowed by people over a certain age, or if a person had a disability that made using a traditional or compound bow too difficult.

In 2014 crossbows became legal to hunt with in Wisconsin.  No Longer is age or a disability a requirement to use one to hunt.

That’s when all hell broke loose in the Dairy State among bow hunters and people looking to use a crossbow.

Wisconsin Deer Bow Season 2017 – Pre Season Scouting

Wisconsin Deer Bow Season 2017 – Pre Season Scouting

Wisconsin Deer Bow Season 2017 - Scouting the woods!
Wisconsin Deer Bow Season 2017 – Scouting the woods!

I spent most of my Labor Day weekend this year doing some prep scouting for the Wisconsin deer bow season.  I also tackled going through my hunting gear that I like to use when bow hunting.  The opener archery and crossbow season is a just a few weeks away, and hunters all around the state will be hitting the woods.

But not me!  I usually don’t hunt the opening weekend.  It’s still a little warm out.  Instead I use the month of September to do more scouting in preparation for hunting the last half of October and into November.

I like to hunt when it’s cooler outside.  It still can be pretty warm in September.  Of course, if there is a cold snap that comes in I’ll be out in the woods.

Luxe Tempo Tent - 2 man, 3-4 season.
Luxe Tempo Tent – 2 man, 3-4 season.

In preparation for some increased camping activity in my life, I recently bought a new Luxe Tempo tent, 2 man size 3-4 season.

I already have a variety of other tents that of the four and six man size variety, but I wanted to get something smaller that would suite my needs for backpack camping.

There are a lot of great one man and two man tents out there on the market.  Some are obviously cheap and may not last long or be as sturdy as I want.  While others I came across were way far outside my spending comfort zone.

Black River State Forest East Fork Campground

Black River State Forest East Fork Campground

You can’t go wrong with a camping trip to the Black River State Forest East Fork Campground in Wisconsin.  I recently made a weekend excursion to this amazing state forest.

I wasn’t at all disappointed.

The Black River State Forest has three main campgrounds.  One of them has more modern amenities such as flush toilets, electric powered sites, and showers.  The East Fork Campground where I stayed does not have any of those things.

It does have vault toilets and water pumps.  But that’s about it.  It provides a more rustic camping experience.  All the sites have picnic tables and fire rings.  And you can buy firewood from the entrance to the campground.

Healthy Enough For A Boundary Waters Canoe Trip?

Healthy Enough For A Boundary Waters Canoe Trip?

Wondering if you are healthy enough for a Boundary Waters Canoe trip?  It’s been on my mind recently.  I figured it might make for a good post.

First and foremost, consult with your personal physician if you have any concerns regarding your ability to do any physical activities.

This post is focused in particular about tackling an overweight health issue and middle age.  It’s about me.

Perhaps in reading about my personal issue you will learn something about yourself if it relates.
