Luxe Tempo 2 Man Tent – Heavy Rain No Leaking!

Luxe Tempo 2 Man Tent – Heavy Rain No Leaking!

Luxe Tempo Tent - 2 man, 3-4 season.
Luxe Tempo Tent – 2 man, 3-4 season.

In preparation for some increased camping activity in my life, I recently bought a new Luxe Tempo tent, 2 man size 3-4 season.

I already have a variety of other tents that of the four and six man size variety, but I wanted to get something smaller that would suite my needs for backpack camping.

There are a lot of great one man and two man tents out there on the market.  Some are obviously cheap and may not last long or be as sturdy as I want.  While others I came across were way far outside my spending comfort zone.

Black River State Forest East Fork Campground

Black River State Forest East Fork Campground

You can’t go wrong with a camping trip to the Black River State Forest East Fork Campground in Wisconsin.  I recently made a weekend excursion to this amazing state forest.

I wasn’t at all disappointed.

The Black River State Forest has three main campgrounds.  One of them has more modern amenities such as flush toilets, electric powered sites, and showers.  The East Fork Campground where I stayed does not have any of those things.

It does have vault toilets and water pumps.  But that’s about it.  It provides a more rustic camping experience.  All the sites have picnic tables and fire rings.  And you can buy firewood from the entrance to the campground.

Healthy Enough For A Boundary Waters Canoe Trip?

Wondering if you are healthy enough for a Boundary Waters Canoe trip?  It’s been on my mind recently.  I figured it might make for a good post.

First and foremost, consult with your personal physician if you have any concerns regarding your ability to do any physical activities.

This post is focused in particular about tackling an overweight health issue and middle age.  It’s about me.

Perhaps in reading about my personal issue you will learn something about yourself if it relates.

Planning A BWCA Trip – Location Change

Planning A BWCA Trip – Location Change

Planning a BWCA trip shouldn’t be rushed… well sometimes maybe it should.  But the one I am planning doesn’t need to be.

I was online doing some extra research on the area of lakes my buddy and I were planning on camping on.  I like to have a good idea which campsites have good reviews, and what the portages between the lakes are like.  Anyway, I found out that the area we were planning on camping in got wiped out a few years ago by a massive forest fire.

Boundary Waters Canoe Area Maps – Planning A Canoe Route

Boundary Waters Canoe Area Maps – Planning A Canoe Route

Boundary Waters Canoe Area maps - worth having on hand before and during your wilderness excursion.
Boundary Waters Canoe Area maps – worth having on hand before and during your wilderness excursion.

With over a million acres of beautiful forest jam packed with thousands of pristine lakes, rivers and streams, planning a trip to the boundary waters of Minnesota requires maps.  Highly detailed maps.  In particular Boundary Waters Canoe Area maps.

A good map is needed for two reason:  1)  Early trip and route planning,  2)  Navigating once you are there.

When making such a trip as I am planning you need to know how to read a map, use a compass, and navigate with both dead reckoning as well as map plotting.  A modern GPS device can make things supper easy and would be beneficial on such a trip into the wilds – and to be honest I’ll probably have one along.
