September In The Superior National Forest

September In The Superior National Forest

My spring overland trip got totally borked!  Luckily my September trip is still on.  However, instead of heading for the Upper Peninsula of Michigan I am instead going to do the trip I had originally planned for May of this year.

That means I am heading for the Superior National Forest.  I will be bouncing around two tracks and back-roads around the Boundary Waters Canoe Wilderness Area, and yes, I am bringing my canoe with me!  My trusty Old Town Guide 119.

Limited Outdoor Activities This Year

Limited Outdoor Activities This Year

2020 has been a very off year for me in regards to getting out in the woods, on lakes, streams, to hike, camp, and fish.  My Spring wilderness overland trip fizzled out, as some of the campsites I was planning to hit were closed due to Covid.  My vacation last week before the July 4th weekend was hit and miss as well – I did get out to do some canoeing and exploring, but stayed within about 200 miles of home.

So what is in store for the remainder of 2020?

Spring Trip Plans Are Cancelled – Thanks Covid 19!

Spring Trip Plans Are Cancelled – Thanks Covid 19!

My overland trip I had planned for the third week in May is not happening.  The plan was to hit some remote areas in the Arrowhead of Minnesota, east of the Boundary Waters Canoe Wilderness Area, and stay at remote designated campsites.  However, the State of Minnesota is not opening campsites until the 18th of May… and then only maybe.

Overlanding Trip Being Planned

September BWCA Entry Point Homer Lake

September BWCA Entry Point Homer Lake

Sorry for the slow entry on my early September BWCA trip.  I had every intention of jumping into making a post as soon as I returned from my vacation, but life in the real world got in the way.  It has been a very busy Summer and Autumn is much the same.  Between family events and starting a side business things have been incredibly busy.

Weather on this trip was excellent!  Daytime highs in the mid 60s with most days being partly sunny.  Evenings got down into mid 40s.  Wind was heavy off and on, but nothing that my Old Town Guide 119 couldn’t handle.

Without further ado, let me share some images and info on my trip!

BWCA Trip & Weight Loss

BWCA Trip & Weight Loss

It has been a very busy summer and I have not been posting as much as I would like and should.  I spent this past weekend pulling out all my camping gear and going through it as I prepared for my upcoming BWCA trip.  Things went well and I always seem to enjoy going through my kit.

Old Town Guide 119 Has Some Problems!

My Old Town Guide 119 Loaded Up
My Old Town Guide 119 Loaded Up

Last August in 2018 I broke down and bought an Old Town Guide 119.  I had been looking pretty hard at a few different solo canoes from various manufactures, but on a gut hunch I went with the Guide 119.  To be honest I am glad I did.  It’s a great little canoe and was a fraction of the cost of those other canoes.
